Basic Care For The Golden Skink


Common Name: Golden Skink

Scientific Name: Mabuya Multifasciata

Distribution: Southeast Asia

Size: Between 7" and 9"

Temperament:
Usually very shy when first acquired, But soon settles down in captivity. Males are
territorial, best kept alone or with a female.


Hardiness:
Golden Skinks are hardy, inexpensive lizards which are fairly easy to maintain in
captivity.

Sexing:
These lizards are fairly difficult to sex, Males tend to have a larger head then
the female and are usually more colorful.

Food / Water:
Crickets, Wax Worms, Mealworms will all be readily taken.They will also take pink
mice, and some will take ripe fruit Always use a good Calcium / Vitamin dusting
Supplement. Always Provide fresh drinking water daily.

Housing:
A Vivarium 2'x18"x12" will house a pair of skinks. For substrate use bark chippings
mixed with Sand. For decor use branches, driftwood, artificial plants, rocks, cork
bark. Create plenty of hiding places.

Temperature / Humidity:
Day time 75f - 88f, Night time 65f - 70f. Moderate humidity, this can be achieved by
occasional misting of the vivarium.

Heating / Lighting:
The use of full spectrum U.V. lighting is recommended for this species. You can use a
incandescent light bulb with reflector to heat the vivarium during the day and a heat
mat placed under the substrate for the night.
